Over the last few years, botox injections have become extremely popular among thousands of Americans. Although botox has been around for a while, people have noticed some sort of a trend in younger patients seeking botox injections. This seems to come as a surprise to some, especially since individuals in their mid-twenties are getting botox left and right. So that is why millions are now asking, is it ever too early to get botox?
It has been clearly known for quite a while now that frown lines, crows’ feet, and forehead furrows are all a result of constant folding of the skin from normal day to day expressions. Most individuals attempt to fix these folds and wrinkles once they’ve reached their 40s, 50s, and 60s, when these wrinkles are fully developed. But people are now starting to realize that if they get botox injections earlier, it can prevent these wrinkles from ever happening in the first place. Doctors say that if you slow down the use of these muscles at an earlier age, these lines may never even develop. Instead of trying to go backwards and fix a wrinkle that is already there, it may be easier to inhibit it from developing in the first place.
A dermatologist from the Dartmouth Medical School conducted a study in which he studied twin sisters, one who got botox injections for 13 years and the other who had not. After a long study, the results showed the patient who had received botox with a smooth forehead and minimal expression lines, and the other with several distinct wrinkles in just the places you would expect an individual of her age to have. Doctors explain that although outside factors could also affect the results, it is clear that the big difference in the skin is due to the botox injections she received in the last 13 years.
This is not to say that infants or teens should be getting botox injections. But dermatologists do suggest that patients begin getting botox at an earlier age to prevent these lines and wrinkles from developing. Some suggest as early as mid or late twenties. Many patients that have begun injections in their twenties have noticed a significant difference between their skin and the skin of others their age. Using botox injections as a preventative technique has been proven to be extremely successful. So even if you do not see wrinkles on your face yet, it may be the right time to start getting injections to prevent them in the future.
